Attendees to a previous year's Downtown Open House to usher in the holidays in Chillicothe get up close and personal with one of the horses used to pull the carriage rides through downtown.

Waverly is not the only area downtown that will put its best holiday face on this weekend.

The streets of downtown Chillicothe also will carry a festive air with its annual Christmas Open House Friday through Sunday.

Festivities will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Friday with a lighting of luminaries along East Main, North Paint and East and West Water streets. That will be followed by free historic tours offered from 6 to 8 p.m. by Kevin Coleman starting at The History Store and horse-drawn carriage rides around downtown.

Tickets for the carriage rides are $1 per person and will be available at Susie's Gifts, Wallpaper and More and Ivy's. Photos with Santa will be taken at Opulent Source, Santa's Mailbox will be available at Lloyd's Sweet Shoppe and the Railroad Museum on Water Street will be open.

A food drive will be conducted all weekend collecting non-perishable food items at The Cellar Room, Susie's Gifts, Lloyd's Sweet Shoppe, the main library and Opulent Source.
