A goat in South Carolina jumped off a 50-foot bridge, prompting a major rescue effort involving firemen, animal rescue officers, sheriff's deputies and two boats. "The goat was headed toward the beach; cars were headed toward the toll booths," the Island Packet newspaper notes. Smart goat, that's what we say. It was eventually hauled from the river and placed on a stretcher. Good thing they have pictures of the muddy beast after it was pulled from the raging river.

Only in Lubbock, Tex., would a turkey smash through a courthouse window and leave a "a turkey-shaped whole" (sic) in the glass. Of course, the Americans thought it was a terrorist at first: "It was like a boom and the glass shattered," an observer tells the local press."I thought, Somebody's shooting at us." Are there pictures of the so-called "turkey whole?" You betcha.
