With incisions no bigger than keyholes and recovery time reduced by two-thirds, some women are opting to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy rather than a conventional hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is the most common non-pregancy-related surgical procedure for women in the United States; more than 600,000 are performed a year. Only a quarter of these surgeries are performed in a minimally invasive way.
