A woman has been killed by stampeding cattle as she walked her dogs.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire police said: 'She was surrounded by a herd of cattle and calves, and as a result of dogs being present the cattle reacted in an aggressive manner.'
The incident took place on a stretch of the Pennine Way outside the hamlet of Gayle, near Hawes in North Yorkshire, at around 12.15 on Sunday.
The woman, who has not been named but was described as being around 5ft 2in tall and of slim build, was fatally injured.
In a similar incident last year, Sandra Pearce, 45, died after being stampeded by cows as she crossed a field in South Elmham in Suffolk.
Diners at a nearby restaurant in the Suffolk countryside rushed
to help when one of the dogs ran in shaking and covered in
blood. Air ambulance paramedics spent an hour trying to save
her life before pronouncing her dead after she suffered 'substantial external injuries '
