The U.S. Senate has approved legislation by Senator Tom Coburn that would allow licensed individuals to carry loaded firearms into national parks and wildlife refuges in states that permit concealed carrying of guns.
"If an American citizen has a right to carry a firearm in their state, it makes no sense to treat them like a criminal if they pass through a national park while in possession of a firearm,” Coburn said.
Under existing law, visitors to national parks and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lands currently must have their firearms unloaded or packed away.
