SEASON 2008 kicked off for the Ovens and King Football League at the weekend, with a number of big wins and surprising results highlighting an action-packed round.

In a contest earmarked as match of the round, Tarrawingee Bulldogs played host to last year’s runner-up, Bright Mountain Men.

The game was tipped to be close, with many predicting a Bulldogs victory based on the team’s strong off-season recruiting.

They got the team right, but after quarter time the margin was hardly close, as the Bulldogs ran away with the match to record an eight-goal win.

After leading by a goal at the first change Bright drifted out of the encounter, with Tarrawingee compiling a 4.1 to 0.4 second term to take a 15-point lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs kept the momentum going in the third, piling on 7.3 to 4.1, and the final quarter confirmed Tarrawingee as a genuine premiership contender, finishing off with 5.4 to 3.3 to seal the victory 18.9 (117) to 10.9 (69).
