The absinthe craze that's sweeping the Bay Area (see F1) is no longer limited to its liquid form. Thanks to candymakers around the world, the elusive green spirit has made it into sweets like lollipops and chocolate bars.
San Francisco resident Jason Lewis made his first batch of absinthe lollipops for friends last Halloween. After they raved about the green suckers, he started selling them at Miette Confiserie in Hayes Valley. Though Lewis won't reveal his company Lollyphile's "trade secret recipe," he swears the lollipops are made from real absinthe, though the alcohol is cooked off in the candymaking process.
